3 Non-Restrictive Habits That Helped Me Fit Back Into My Pre-Baby Jeans

When the Pre-Baby Jeans Fit Again

You’ll hear people say things like:

“It’s okay if your old clothes don’t fit anymore. Our bodies change. Just buy new ones.”

And honestly… I don’t disagree with that. In fact, I was the person who needed to hear that last summer. Because not a single pair of my jean shorts fit comfortably.

Not one.

I ended up having to go out and buy new ones.

And although that’s what needed to happen at the time, I can’t pretend it felt good. Trying on my shorts and realizing I couldn’t even begin to zip them up was honestly crushing.

It sucked.

But I also believe something else can be true at the same time. We can give ourselves grace and still create a plan of action.

So this year, I approached things differently.

Here are 3 non-restrictive things I did (and one thing I didn’t do) to make sure I didn’t have the same experience again.

1. I Prioritized Protein Every Day

I stopped relying on snacky meals.

You know the kind...a little bit of this, a handful of that, something quick while standing in the kitchen.

Instead, I started being more intentional with my meals, especially when it came to protein.

For example, at lunch I’ll often take five minutes to make a smoothie with around 30 grams of protein instead of grabbing something random.

It’s a small shift, but it helped me stay full longer and feel more energized throughout the day.

2. I Made Sure I Hit 10k Steps Daily

Workouts are great, but they aren’t the only way to move your body. One of the simplest habits I added was getting 10,000 steps every day.

This added movement in a way that was:

  • simple

  • achievable

  • realistic with mom life

Some days that meant walks with the kids. Other days it meant making an effort to move more throughout the day. It didn’t need to be complicated.

3. I Started Paying Attention to My Gut Health

Every single day.

I started supporting my gut health with a greens supplement that includes:

  • prebiotics

  • probiotics

  • digestive enzymes

  • and a variety of fruits and vegetables

This helped fill in nutritional gaps and made a noticeable difference in things like cravings and digestion.

The One Thing I Didn’t Do

Here’s the one thing I didn’t do.

I didn’t make excuses.

Yes, I’m a mom to a baby and a toddler.

Yes, I’m building a business while prioritizing being present with my kids.

But I can still:

  • prioritize protein in my meals

  • get my steps in

  • support my nutrition daily

Those things are within my control.

Why It Matters

Yes, my jean shorts fit comfortably again. But honestly, the best part isn’t the shorts.

It’s the feeling that comes from saying you’re going to do something and following through. That confidence and consistency carries over into so many other areas of life.

Final Thoughts

Bodies change.

Motherhood changes us.

And sometimes we do need to buy new jeans.

But if you want to feel stronger, more energized, and more like yourself again, small daily habits can make a huge difference.

You don’t have to restrict everything or overhaul your life overnight.

Sometimes the most powerful changes come from simple things done consistently.
